PetAyi was a random project that sounded great in my head but was a failure.
League of Legends going on to year 9 or 10 or something and isn't stopping, the online gaming world is huge and print on demand is a serious business model. I wanted to put both together and see if I could make it work.
Print on demand socks, t-shirts, mousepads all followed a pretty standard model of finding some niche community, getting some creative designs and giving them to customers.
This was PetAyi think was built on honesty, my previous projects were product and content-focused, trying to win clients over by selling them something that I didn't 100% believe was worth it.
PetAyi was something I honestly thought was cool and people would love, send us a photo of their dog and we turn them into a league of legends champ. It sounded cool in my head.
The result was I built this site, found a designer and went online with ads.
A thousand dollars in ad spend, and two sales later. I realized this wasn't working out and killed it.
I learned that I should probably see of league players were down to spend $40 dollars on a poster of their dog or not.
I learned print-on-demand niches are tough, and picking the gaming niche one was tough too. I later tried fortnite, but I think that audience was too young for something like this.
Failure Lessons:
1. Print on Demand is tough, research your niche better
2. Gaming niches can work but need more thought than I put in
3. Honest product projects feel good, even if they don't work out
